Web Site Hosts come in a lot of flavors.
Prices can range from a few dollars a month or even per year to
hundreds per month. You have to determine the level of
service, reliability, and security of the host based on your
specific needs and then factor in price.
Words of warning:
Each year a couple of the cheaper hosts fail with little or no
advance notice to their clients - most of whom have no site backup
and therefore lose their sites and business.
- If your business depends on your website then
you must always have a backup of the latest version of your site on
your local computer. Our favorite host backs up daily but
we run our own on key sites.
- Look for reliability, size, and
reasonable pricing from your web hosts. "Fail Over"
technology is important for ecommerce sites because your site is
on multiple servers and keeps on running if one fails or needs
maintenance.
- Its not just about HTML anymore. You also need to
make sure your host offers a variety of server side tools to support your site.
Perl, CGI, MySQL, PHP and Fantastico are among the many tools
you may need for a successful site.
- Bandwidth for video and audio
streaming is an important consideration since internet marketing
and ecommerce are embracing these memory bandits.
- Ability to Host Many Sites With
One Account for One Price. Keeping up with multiple sites
at several hosts can be a real chore.
Here's my recommendation for our
favorite
Web
Site Host. They are especially good for
marketing or ecommerce sites and if you have or plan to have
multiple sites, sub-sites, and even sites in folders. Contact
me if they don't meet your requirements. |
